We are living in extraordinary times! The global coronavirus pandemic has brought a new period of time to Rapa Nui – there are no tourists. Photos of everyday life on the island, taken by its own residents, will be important historical documents.
This event aims to collect, share, and archive the experiences of the Rapa Nui community during the beginning stages of the global COVID-19 quarantine.
Event Details:
This public event allowed for unlimited photo entries, encouraging a wide variety of photos of all community members and their lives during the first 138 days of the COVID-19 quarantine – from March 16 to July 31, 2020. Photos must have been taken on Rapa Nui, or during plane and travel sanitation procedures from island residents who returned from Santiago to Rapa Nui during this time.
How were the winners selected?
Photos were submitted via WhatsApp with the names of their photographers. Everyone who submitted their photos automatically participated in both the contest and the raffle. After the event deadline on July 31, each judge selected their top 5 winning photos. Then, 5 more photos were randomly selected from all the remaining photos for a total of 10 winners!
